Ballycotton 10 Sunday 6th March, 2016

Thursday, March 17th, 2016

A huge Barr’s contingent rolled into Ballycotton for the annual 10 mile race that is one of the biggest races on the local athletics calendar. Having won a huge amount of category and team prizes in the 5 mile race in Carrigaline just a few weeks previously there was great hope of more prizes to be won and we weren’t let down in terms of both team and individual performances.

John Meade once again led us all home in a fantastic 53.45 and with Rory O Sullivan and Con Marshall backing him up our men’s team was 2nd. Our women’s team went one better in winning the team prize and Karina Teahan led them home in a pb of 64.29 and was joined by Niamh Cronin, also in a pb and Mary Sweeney for the win.

In the category prizes Paul Duggan was 1st M45, Cathal O Connell was 2nd M50 and Eamonn McEvoy was 1st M60.

In the ladies Karina Teahan was 2nd F35 and Mary Sweeney was 1st F55 in a new course record for that category!

Here are the times for all Barr’s runners. These are clock times and not chip times.

Thursday, February 4th, 2016

A sizeable contingent of 37 Barr’s runners went to Dungarvan on Sunday for the first major 10 miler of the year. Some great performances were produced on a tough day with a very strong wind and some tough drags at different stages.

Michael Morgan led us all home with an excellent 6th place finish in a pb of 55 minutes flat. The men’s team were 2nd in the Club prize while the ladies team of Karina Teahan, Niamh Cronin and Mary Sweeney were 1st in the John Treacy Club Challenge! Karina was also 1st F35 and Mary was 1st F55. Paul Duggan was 2nd M45. We had 9 runners under 60 minutes and a further 18 who broke 70 minutes.

Bandon 5 Mile 1st Jan, 2016

Saturday, January 2nd, 2016

A great start to the year for the hardy Barr’s runners who competed in the Bandon 5 mile race on New Year’s Day in what can only be described as miserable conditions with the wind and rain on the day.

John Meade led the charge and finished 2nd in 25.57 with Rory O Sullivan (5th), Michael Morgan (8th) and Eoin O Keeffe (10th) all in the top 10.
Denis Lyons was 13th, and it was good to see Alex O Shea back racing and finishing in a creditable 29.09. (There is no truth in the rumour that he had just run to Bandon from Limerick :) ) Paul Duggan was another Barr’s member to break the 30 minute barrier. Eamonn McEvoy, Martin O Reilly, Conor O Sullivan, Tim O Donnell and Michael O Crualaoi completed the list of Barr’s members who competed. Well done to all!

Cork Marathon & Half Marathon 1st June 2015

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2015

Congrats to all who took part in both the Marathon and Half Marathon in very difficult wet and windy conditions. Still, it was better than the heatwaves of previous years! Despite the conditions there were some fantastic performances recorded in both events with pb’s aplenty.
In the Marathon Alex O’Shea, not long after wining the little known Blackrock Marathon, was 9th overall and was 1st M40 with Joe Cunningham 3rd M40. Geraldine O Shea was 1st F45 and Mary Sweeney was 2nd F50.
In the Half Marathon John Meade was 5th overall and 1st M35, Mark Cronin was 9th overall and Dan Kennedy was 3rd M60. Niamh Cronin was 5th overall and 2nd F35, Anne Wolfe was 2nd F40 and Marion Lyons was 1st F60. Brilliant performances!

Ballycotton 10 Sunday, 3rd March, 2013

Monday, March 4th, 2013

There were some fantastic performances by Barr’s athletes again in Ballycotton yesterday. Scanning through the provisional results there are a lot of Barr’s members in the Top 100 and some fantastic times posted by people.

Allen Whitaker was 3rd M40. Cathal O Connell was 1st M45 (21st overall). Tony Archer was 1st M50 and Eamonn McEvoy was 2nd M55.

In the ladies Claire McCarthy was third lady home in a great performance, Margo Dinan was 2nd F45 (with a pb!) and Mary Sweeney was 1st F50.

Great performances. If I missed anyone apologies as this was from scanning the provisional results and I will update this to correct any errors or omissions when the proper results are out with the list of category winners.

Well done to all who ran so well on a nice day for running (despite the wind coming back!).
