AAI Intermediate & Masters XC 24-Jan-2016 (Results)

Glohealth AAI Mens' Intermediate XC, Dundalk I.T., Sun 24-Jan-2016

There were some fantastic individual and team performances by BARRS athletes in today’s All Ireland Intermediate & Masters Cross Country at Dundalk I.T. Conditions were very difficult with huge crowds running in what was a mud bath but the BARRS turned out in great numbers and performed brilliantly.

Our O35 Women’s team (Ann-Marie Healy, Gillian Cotter, Margo Dinan, Karina Teahan and Denise Twohig) achieved a very creditable 4th place just 12 pts behind the bronze medal winners. Individually, Karina Teahan was 2nd at F35 after a fantastic run that saw her finish 6th overall.

Our O35 Men finished 3rd with John Meade, Con Marshall, Rory O Sullivan and Joe Cunningham all scoring. John, Con and Rory also scored for the Cork team that finished 2nd. Our O50 Men’s team finished 9th with Eamonn McEvoy, Willie Hayes, Tony O’Brien and Eddie Barry all scoring. Individually John Meade was 6th at M35 and Rory O Sullivan 9th. Con Marshall was 9th at M40 with Eamonn McEvoy 4th at M60.

In the Women’s Intermediate race, the BARRS were 7th with Catriona Santry, Anita Murphy, Irene Eighan and Lorraine O’Sullivan all scoring. Catriona Santry also scored for the Cork Intermediate team that finished 2nd!

Well done to the BARRS athletes who travelled all the way to Dundalk and performed so well!

Rounding off a very successful weekend after Saturday’s Waterford Half Marathon, the club’s Men and Women posted some excellent performances in the BHAA-ESB Cross Country Race at Beaumont Park.

The BARRS Ladies completed a clean sweep with Irene Eighan an impressive winner and Caitriona Santry outsprinting Anita Murphy for 2nd and 3rd respectively. Gillian Cotter finished 4th overall and 1st at F40. Kitty Harrington Buckley was 1st woman home at F50.

In the Men’s race, Alex O Shea continued his impressive comeback with a 3rd place while the gallant Stephen Geoghegan was 2nd at M40 and the irrepressible Tony O Brien 1st at M55.

Well done to all the BARRS runners!

Waterford Half Marathon 9th Janauary, 2016

Some fantastic performances again this weekend by Barr’s athletes, this time in the Waterford Half Marathon. In perfect running conditions with no wind or rain (if you can believe that!) John Meade was 3rd in 71.19, Michael Morgan 5th in 73.16 and Rory O Sullivan 7th in 73.32.

In other results of note Joe Cunningham was 16th in 77.33 and was 1st M40. Paul Duggan was 21st in 78.16 and was 2nd M45 and Martin Curtin was 29th in 79.13. Graham Nudds finished in 89.32.

Great running by all of them, well done!

Bandon 5 Mile 1st Jan, 2016

A great start to the year for the hardy Barr’s runners who competed in the Bandon 5 mile race on New Year’s Day in what can only be described as miserable conditions with the wind and rain on the day.

John Meade led the charge and finished 2nd in 25.57 with Rory O Sullivan (5th), Michael Morgan (8th) and Eoin O Keeffe (10th) all in the top 10.
Denis Lyons was 13th, and it was good to see Alex O Shea back racing and finishing in a creditable 29.09. (There is no truth in the rumour that he had just run to Bandon from Limerick 🙂 ) Paul Duggan was another Barr’s member to break the 30 minute barrier. Eamonn McEvoy, Martin O Reilly, Conor O Sullivan, Tim O Donnell and Michael O Crualaoi completed the list of Barr’s members who competed. Well done to all!
