Ballycotton 10 Sunday 6th March, 2016

A huge Barr’s contingent rolled into Ballycotton for the annual 10 mile race that is one of the biggest races on the local athletics calendar. Having won a huge amount of category and team prizes in the 5 mile race in Carrigaline just a few weeks previously there was great hope of more prizes to be won and we weren’t let down in terms of both team and individual performances.

John Meade once again led us all home in a fantastic 53.45 and with Rory O Sullivan and Con Marshall backing him up our men’s team was 2nd. Our women’s team went one better in winning the team prize and Karina Teahan led them home in a pb of 64.29 and was joined by Niamh Cronin, also in a pb and Mary Sweeney for the win.

In the category prizes Paul Duggan was 1st M45, Cathal O Connell was 2nd M50 and Eamonn McEvoy was 1st M60.

In the ladies Karina Teahan was 2nd F35 and Mary Sweeney was 1st F55 in a new course record for that category!

Cork AAI 2016 County Novice & Masters Roads Champs, Castlelyons, Co. Cork, Thu 17-Mar-2016, 10am

Club members enjoy a successful day out at the Midleton Park Hotel, 17-Mar-2015

The Cork AAI 2016 County Road Championships will take place in Castlelyons, North Cork, at 10am, on Thursday March 17th (St. Patrick’s Day). The event will be organised and hosted by St. Nicholas A.C. and your race H.Q. for the day will be the Castlelyons Community Hall.

This event is open to Novice and Masters Men & Women. Masters categories start at O/35 (on the day of competition) and continue upwards in 5 year blocks.  There are team categories at O/35 and O/50. An athlete can downgrade for team purposes; e.g. a 56 year old individual competing at O/55 can declare on an O/35 team (but cannot also score on another team).

The Novice & Masters races will be run together. The distance is 4 Miles for both Men and Women. The Ladies will start at 10am sharp followed by the men around 10:20am. This is a Championship race and competing athletes must wear a club singlet and be registered (paid-up) members for 2016. The same event last year in Midleton drew almost 50 club entries and we’re expecting an equally big  turnout this year.
