Races all over the shop!
Wow, you turn your back for a few days and next thing there are results appearing from all over the place.
Just as people are recovering from their marathon efforts and their bodies are starting to return to normal (is there such a setting as normal?) there was the 2nd round of the John Buckley Sports graded league, the Glanmire 4 mile race, the Iniscarra 4 mile race and the Ballyclough 5k plus some people excelled in triathlons and the results of the John Buckley 5k (run the week before the marathon) came out too.
So that’s the starting point, pre-marathon when (nearly) everyone was still in one piece the John Buckley 5k attracted a massive field and our own John Meade was 4th and Cathal O Connell was 5th. These performances were obviously perfect warm-ups for the lads given how well they ran in the half marathon and marathon respectively. In the M50 category Michael Murphy was 1st while Willie Hayes was 3rd in M55. In the ladies F35 we had a 1,2,3 with Michelle Nolan 1st, Ann Wolfe 2nd and Gillian Cotter 3rd! Ann Donnelly was 1st in F50. Great performances all round!
In the graded league there were some excellent performances and the club still lies in 3rd position after two rounds. Denis Coughlan was 2nd in the A 800m while David Hickey was 6th. In the B 800m Cathal O Donovan continued his recent good form with a very close 2nd while Declan Murphy also kept his form up with a 5th place finish. Colin Condon and Eamon McEvoy were 6th and 7th respectively. In the discus Tony O Brien was 3rd. The 3rd round is on next Wednesday for those of you who can attend. Details are already on this site.
In the Glanmire 4 mile race last week Ann Donnelly put in a great performance to finish 3rd in the ladies race with Marion Lyons 1st in F55. Willie Hayes improved on his 3rd place finish in the 5k to come 2nd M55 in this race.
In Friday’s Iniscarra 4 mile we had a 1,2 in the ladies and a 2nd and 3rd in the men’s. Geraldine O Shea won the ladies race from Mary Sweeney (incredible after her marathon effort!) while Declan Murphy’s excellent recent form continued with a brilliant 2nd place with Eoin O Keeffe just behind him in 3rd. The results from this are as follows:
2. Declan Murphy 23.22
3. Eoin O Keeffe 23.50
13. Ted O Flynn 26.16
16. Geraldine O Shea 26.57
28 Mary Sweeney 28.32
52 Regina Burton 32.18 (5th lady)
66 Anne Hickey 33.36
67 Kitty Harrington-Buckley 33.44
69 Marion Lyons 34.13
In yesterday’s Ballyclough 5k Mary Murphy was 1st F50 when finishing 41st in 24.44.
Finally, some fantastic triathlon performances as in the Schull triathlon Katie Cooke was 1st and Louise Keane 3rd in the ladies event. Louise certainly made up for not finishing her last Tri due to bike trouble! Neil Creedon finished 13th in this event and won the M50 category. Meanwhile in Cahirciveen Karina Teahan was brilliant in successfully defending her Sive Triathlon title while Aidan O’Gorman was 6th overall. Brilliant performances by all concerned.

Cork Marathon
Well done everyone on the fantastic performances. The weather conditions were near perfect and it resulted in some great achievements in the full, half and team relay events.
In the Marathon Cathal O Connell was 8th overall in 2.33.57 (just 24 seconds off 5th!) and was first in M45. Mary Sweeney was another category winner in F50 and Margo was 3rd in F40. These are all provisional results. We are also waiting on confirmation that Margo broke the world marathon talking record! 🙂
In the half marathon John Meade came 2nd with a great performance in 74.10. James Cosgrave was 4th overall and was 1st M40 in 76.39. Claire McCarthy was 2nd in the ladies half in a time of 80.48 finishing 9th overall. This was another brilliant performance from Claire who is showing some great form at the moment. Orla Crosbie put in an excellent performance to finish 2nd F40 in a time of 1.36.51. These are also provisional results.
In the team relay Martin McCarthy was part of the first team to finish while St. Finbarr’s AC floaters were 8th overall in 2.45.20. The team was made up of Patrick Rahilly, Karina Teahan, Neil Murphy, Brian russell and Aidan O’Gorman.
Here are the provisional results. If I missed anyone let me know as I had to go through the program to extract the Barr’s runners and the club wasn’t listed for everyone.

John Buckley Graded Track & Field League
There were some top performances in the first meeting recently in CIT.
Cathal O Donovan won the B 3000 metres leading from start to finish. Our own Kevin Coleman started to reel Cathal in towards the finish but a final kick by Cathal meant he held on to win by 2 seconds. Michael Murphy, Stephen Geoghegan and Martina Kiely made it a Barr’s top 5. Behind them Michelle Nolan, Eddie Barry, Orla Crosby and Tony O Brien filled 8th to 11th positions. Cathals performance came just a day after finishing 2nd in a cycling time trial so a great two days for him!
In other events, Barbara Curran was 5th in the 200m, the mens team were 4th in the 4*400m while the ladies were 1st in the same event. Declan Murphy ran strongly to finish 13th in the A 3000m. Daithi Merrick and Tony O Brien were 3rd and 4th respectively in the shot and 2nd and 4th in the 56 WFD (no idea – I’m guessing a discus but could just as easily be darts?!)
Overall the club lies in 3rd place after this round.
10k Results
Congratulations on some great 10k results to Kevin Coleman who was 4th in Bandon in 37.50 and to Karina Teahan who was 2nd in Mungret, Co Limerick in 40.49 recently.

Marathon Results
Just a couple of marathon results that I am aware of.
John Sheppard completed Boston in 3.52.42 and less than 2 weeks later ran a personal best in Limerick in 3.39.09. Great stuff! Hopefully he might take a break for a while now!
Also in Limerick another man running a personal best was Niall O Herlihy who knocked 18 minutes off his time for 3.14.11 and that despite running the bulk of the race on his own!
If you know of any other marathon performances please let me know and I’ll get them up on the site as these are just ones that I know of.

Babies & The Ballyandreen 5
Congratulations to some members who recently became parents. Martin and Claire McCarthy welcomed their 3rd boy and Claire celebrated by winning the Ballyandreen 5! Patrick O Rahilly became a dad for the first time and Eoin Shanaghy completed the recent additions also becoming a dad for the first time, both to baby girls.
The performances in this were excellent with John Meade 2nd and Paul Duggan 6th. Claire McCarthy was 8th overall and was 1st lady home. Declan Murphy put in a great performance to come 12th while Eoin O Keeffe fresh from his 6 months in central and south America showed he hasn’t lost any pace with his time of 30.34. Patrick O Rahilly who is just back from a long injury was just 3 seconds behind Eoin. The full results are as follows:
