Claire McCarthy to represent Ireland in European Championships!!!!!

After her fantastic performance in the Inter County Cross Country Championships Claire McCarthy has been selected for the Irish team to compete in the European Cross Country Championships. These will take place on the 11th December in Velenje, Slovenia. Congratulations and best of luck to Claire who well deserves this honour for all the hard work she has put in, especially since returning to training after having her third child.

Inter County Cross Country Championship 27th November

Congratulations to Claire McCarthy who put in a fantastic finish to come second in the Inter County Cross Country Championship in Sligo yesterday. In coming second Claire led the Cork ladies to the Inter county title. This was a fantastic achievement by Claire who missed the recent senior county cross country through illness.

Dublin Marathon, 31st October, 2011

Congratulations to everyone who ran so well in difficult conditions on Monday. Warm, humid and windy conditions are not ideal for any race, let alone a marathon. The race looked fantastic on tv however so I hope you all enjoyed it, insofar as you can enjoy a marathon! Enjoy a well earned rest. Not all results are correctly on the Dublin Marathon website yet so this is just what I have so far. They say they will have the issues rectified by Thursday so hopefully I will be able to update this soon. If I missed anyone, e-mail your race number to me at oregan.dave@gmail.com.

Novice B Cross Country Champions! 30th October

The Barr’s won Team Gold in both the Mens and Ladies races in this event. Two more great team performances. Well done everyone!

Congratulations to Barbara Curran who was third in the Cork county Novice B Cross Country in Carrignavar on Sunday. Rachael Crowley was 4th in the same race and the team packed well so could be in contention for a team medal.

In the men’s race Michael Houlihan was 5th and Kevin Coleman 6th. The team did well here too so when the results are published could be in line for honours.

Well done to all who ran so well.

County Novice B & Juvenile B Cross Country

Date: Sunday 30th October 2011
Venue: Carrignavar, Co. Cork

The County Novice B will be held with the County Juvenile B Cross Country Championships on Sunday October 30th in Carrignavar. With all the big guns and boy racers ruled ineligible, the Novice B is an ideal opportunity for new club members and L-plate runners to experience cross country on more level terms. I was going to say level playing pitch, but in truth the organisers of cross country events do their level best (sorry for all the puns) to ensure there are few if any level running surfaces in cross country. It seems the goal of XC is to hinder running, not help! You’ll need a club top, a pair of spikes and have a washing machine and packet of Bold or Persil on standby for when you get back home.

These are the County Novice B Teams Novice Men: Michael Houlihan, John O’Sullivan, Eoin O’Keeffe, Kevin Coleman, Aidan O’Gorman, Colin Condon, Glenn Dollard, Tom Cuddihy, Rory O’Sullivan, Patrick Rahilly.

Novice Women: Barbara Curran, Cait Mehigan, Rachel Crowley, Una Kennedy, Patricia O’Connor, Yvonne O’Raw.

Best of luck everyone!

Munster Novice Cross Country Champions!!!! Oct 23, 2011

Martina Kiely won the Munster Novice Cross Country Championship in horrendous conditions yesterday in County Clare. Martina was with the leaders for the first lap but pulled away early in the second lap and kept increasing her lead all the way to the finish to win well.

In the men’s race Cathal O Donovan led the team home, finishing 3rd overall himself. He was followed home by Paul Gallagher (who won county Gold with Clare!), Allen Whitaker and Denis Coughlan for a fantastic team win.

Well done to all who ran on another great day for the club!

Munster Novice, U23 & Even Age XC 2011

Date: Sunday 23rd O 0pm, Men at 2pmVenue: Newmarket On Fergus, Co. Clare The historic old town of Carrigadrohid was the venue for a successful Munster Novice XC in 2010. This year’s Munster Novice XC takes place in the equally attractive grounds of Dromoland Castle just north of the village of Newmarket on Fergus in Co. North Limerick. Transport is available leaving the UCC Farm in Curraheen at 10am. As this is a championship race, all participants must wear the club singlet. The Women’s race is up first at 1.30pm followed thereafter by the Men. Travelling from Limerick on the N18 (E20) take Exit 11 for QUIN. Cross over the motorway and make a U-Turn back down the R458 in the direction of Newmarket on Fergus. The race venue is in the vicinity of the Dromoland Castle Hotel and will be signposted on route. Note that Exit 10 will take you through the village of Newmarket on Fergus. As all cars will be parking on the road, taking Exit 11 will have all cars facing in the same direction and thus avoid traffic congestion.

The Barr’s teams are as follows:
