The very best of luck to all club members participating in the SSE Airtricity Dublin Marathon and National Marathon Championships 2015. The training is done and all that remains is to put those personal race plans into practice. As ever, the advice is the same – don’t go off too fast early on. Settle into a nice sustainable rhythm that doesn’t leave you out of breath. Be aware of the weather conditions. If it’s cold, wet and windy, it’s probably not a good idea to expose too much skin to the elements. It’s a long way around and you won’t want your core temperature to drop too much. Whatever else, do your best and enjoy the event.

Training Weekend – Rosscarbery, 29/30th August 2015
The Celtic Cross Hotel, Rosscarbery will be our base for this year’s club training weekend on Sat 29/30th August 2015. B&B and an Evening Meal will cost €65 per person sharing with the use of hotel facilities. There are still some places available, so if you are interested please call or text Ailíse ASAP at 0860226850.
This year’s club training sessions and workshops will be hosted by Dave Matthews, a two-time Olympian and current Irish 800m record holder. The Kildare man is the designated Athletics Ireland coach for the Cork region and the current fitness coach and training adviser to the Cork County senior hurling squad.
We’ll be checking into the Celtic Cross Hotel around 2pm on the Saturday. Next up, it’s off to Owenahincha Beach and Castlefreke Woods for a training run at 3:30pm. We’ll return to the hotel for a 5:30 – 7 pm workshop with Dave Matthews. There’ll be plenty of time to freshen up before dinner at 8pm. On the Sunday morning, there’ll be a run at 9am followed by breakfast at 10:30am and checkout at 12pm. We look forward to seeing you all at the Celtic Cross Hotel on Saturday 29th.
Rosscarbery is a sleepy town on a shallow estuary, which opens onto Rosscarbery Bay. It’s a popular summertime tourist destination with proximity to at least three fine beaches. The nearest, “Warren Beach”, is only a mile from the village. A couple of miles down the road is the fine “Owenahincha” beach backing onto a network of sand dunes. Just up the road from “Owenahincha” is “Castlefreke Woods” with some excellent terrain for trail running. And with the schools due to open after the long !!Summer!! break, we can almost guarantee you a sunshine weekend.
