Presentation of Dublin Marathon (National Marathon) Medals

The final team results for the Dublin City Marathon held on 30th October 2022 were published on 6th December.

Congratulations to our Women’s Team of Niamh, Katie and Irene who won the National o35 Team Gold. They were the 1st team o35 out of 82 teams!

Well done to our Men, who narrowly missed a National Bronze Medal by 2 minutes over 78 Miles when finishing 4th overall.

These medals are in addition to the age category medals won by Jeremy, Niamh and Cathal.

Presentation of the medals was held on 21 December 2022 during our Graded Mile Charity event.

Cork City 10 Miler Donation to Cork Simon Community

Members of St. Finbarr’s AC who presented the Cork Simon Community with a cheque for €3,000, the proceeds of the Cork City 10-Mile Road Race which took place in August 2022.

Accepting the cheque on behalf of the Cork Simon Community is Margaret O’Sullivan, Fundraising (on left) and Rebecca McEvoy, chair of St. Finbarr’s AC.

Some of the best runners in the club and all clubs countywide are eligible for Novice Cross Country so it promises to be a great competition.

Cross Country Club Event Sunday 25th September

A club event for members, who are interested in running Cross Country this Autumn/ Winter will take place Sunday September 25th 2022.

Meet Time: Warm up 10.30 (stretches and strides with Dan).

Event Start Time: 11am

Meeting Point: Tramore Valley Park (top of the grass dome to the East of the car park)

The main purpose of the event is to get people back running on grass while putting teams together for the upcoming cross country season.

There will be cross country events happening throughout October, November, December and into February 2023.

The more members to take part in the cross country events the better. There is a place for everyone on a team.

With Novice, Novice B, Senior, Intermediate and Masters races for Cork, Munster and Nationals there is a race for everyone.

Let’s wash out the fields of Cork and Munster with a sea of Barr’s jerseys!

This club event on Sunday 25th September at 11am will be held at Tramore Valley Park.

For those experimenting with cross country for the first time, there will be no need for spikes for the trial, unless there is heavy rain in the intervening period.

Feel free to wear regular runners or spikes for this one!

Monday Hill Session with Dan and Liam

Monday Hill Session with Dan and Liam continues.

Monday night hills and xc training session with Dan and Liam – meet at the Farm at 6pm and jog down to the back of MTU for 6.15pm start.

Anyone under time pressure either park in the Rossbrook Housing Estate or in MTU and jog down to the Curraheen footpath at the rear of the stadium.

Monday Road and Hill Sessions

Monday night Road and Hill sessions continue with Coach Dan Kennedy.

Meet at the top of the Mardyke Lane at 6.15pm, 2 miles warm up, hills in a new location, 2 mile warm down.

Please see ensure you have a proper hi viz bib or vest with proper reflective strips.

Assemble at the top (West) end of Mardyke Walk as per the map below. For location information, paste coordinates 51.893954N, 8.502560W into your Google Maps search box and hit enter.

Come along to the barrier at the top of Mardyke Walk and ask for the person in charge. Members assemble at the barrier just before 18:15 to conduct warm-up exercises.

COVID Safety Update from Athletics Ireland

Summary: Restrictions have been lifted but please maintain good hygiene practices and do not participate in or attend training/races if symptomatic.

On Friday January 21st 2022 the Government made an announcement in relation to Public Health Measures.

As set out in the announcement a large number of the public health measures currently in place can be removed. Key items in relation to sport & physical activity are as follows:
 
1.       Formal requirements for physical distancing (2m) removed
2.       8pm closing time for sporting events removed
3.       Capacity restrictions for outdoor sporting events removed
4.       Capacity restrictions for indoor sporting events removed
5.       Seated only spectators at indoor sporting events removed
6.       Use of pods for indoor sporting activities removed
7.       Use of a COVID pass to access indoor events removed
 
The Government have reiterated the need for ongoing close monitoring of the virus. Sporting bodies should continue to risk assess individual activities and events.

This includes the continued implementation of good hygiene practices along with recommending symptomatic individuals do not participate in or attend sporting activities.

The All Ireland Masters and Intermediate XC Championships are today 6 weeks in Castlelyons. Let’s get ready!

January 3rd

Dan is holding a tempo hills session tomorrow Monday, at the rear of MTU in Curraheen.

Meet at the Farm at 11am and jog away down easy as a warm up.

January 9th

Also, The BHAA today week, January 9th are holding an xc race in Beaumont Quarry ( across from the Cork Constitution Grounds or near Pairc Ui Rinn).

This would be a good practice session too for Castlelyons.

COVID Safety Reminder

A reminder to protect yourselves and others:

  • Stay at home and self-isolate when symptomatic
  • Observe good respiratory and hand hygiene
  • Wear a face covering in crowded and congregated settings
  • If carpooling, please arrange a pod and keep to the same people. Where a mask while carpooling.

Athletics Ireland fully supports the Government approach and the HSE best practice advice that your COVID-19 vaccine will offer you protection from COVID-19. We strongly encourage all eligible individuals involved in athletics to avail of the Government vaccine programme, mask wearing when required, regular hand washing and appropriate social distancing whilst participating in our sport.

From September 20th 2021 members are no longer required to complete the online COVID form or choose a pod in advance of training.

Coaches may continue, at training, to split the group keeping similar abilities together and managing recovery periods.
